🥫How Long Is Food Really Safe? Science Just Changed the Rules
Most expiration dates aren’t about safety — they’re about quality. Food doesn’t turn toxic overnight, but bacteria, storage, and temperature decide how long it stays safe.
Expiration Dates 101
Only infant formula is regulated by the FDA for expiration. Everything else — milk, eggs, cheese, meat — uses manufacturer “best by” or “use by” dates that predict taste, not spoilage.
“Best by” = quality peak.
“Use by” = likely still safe, but not guaranteed.
The danger? Some bacteria like Listeria can grow even in cold conditions, and you can’t smell or taste them.
How Long Common Foods Really Last
Milk: Unopened lasts ~1 week past date. Once opened, use within 5–7 days.
Eggs: Good for 3–5 weeks after purchase. Smell test is if they beat the float test.
Meat & Poultry: 1–2 days in the fridge, up to 9 months frozen.
Cheese: Hard cheese—cut off small mold spots. Soft cheese—toss it.
Produce: Safe until visibly spoiled. Leafy greens last 3–5 days; apples up to 6 weeks.
Bread & Flour: Freeze bread to extend life. Refrigerate flour up to a year.
Smart Food Safety Rules
Fridge: Keep below 40°F (4°C).
Freezer: 0°F (-18°C).
Two-hour rule: Refrigerate perishable foods within 2 hours (1 hour if above 90°F).
Bacteria danger zone: 40–140°F — where pathogens multiply fastest.
If food smells off, feels slimy, or looks strange — trust your instincts.
And if your gut needs backup after a few questionable leftovers, Organifi Green Juice can help detox and rebalance with spirulina, chlorella, and ashwagandha.

🥩 Nearly 1 in 5 UTIs May Be Foodborne—Here’s What That Means
If you keep getting urinary tract infections (UTIs), it might not just be about hydration or hygiene. New research points to a surprising source — contaminated meat.
The Research
A 2024 study comparing E. coli from retail meats and human infections found that about 18% of UTIs were caused by strains linked to grocery store chicken, beef, and pork.
Women, older adults, and people in low-income areas faced the highest risk — up to 60% greater likelihood of foodborne UTIs.
How It Happens
Raw meat can carry E. coli. When juices touch cutting boards, utensils, or your hands, bacteria can spread to other foods and surfaces. Once inside your gut, they can travel to the urinary tract — especially in people with shorter urethras.
Genetic studies show some E. coli strains carry mobile DNA that allows them to thrive in both animals and humans.
Prevention Tips
Wash hands for at least 20 seconds before and after handling raw meat.
Keep meat below other foods in the fridge (under 40°F / 4°C).
Use separate cutting boards for raw and ready-to-eat items.
Cook poultry to 165°F and avoid rinsing meat in the sink — it spreads bacteria.
Sanitize sponges, dishcloths, and sink surfaces regularly.
Not every UTI starts with poor hygiene — some start on your cutting board. Safe food handling, proper cooking, and clean kitchen habits can drastically reduce your risk.
Your gut, bladder, and immune system are connected — protect one, and you protect them all.

Health Quiz Answer
Is it better to eat fruit before or after a meal?
Before (on an empty stomach). Fruit digests faster than other foods. Eating it after a heavy meal can cause bloating and fermentation. Have it 30 minutes before eating for better absorption.
Between expiration dates, mystery meat microbes, and that third cup of coffee calling your name — it’s a wild world out there. But knowledge turns chaos into clarity. The more you know, the easier it gets to make choices that actually serve you.
Keep learning, keep adapting, and don’t let small habits wreck the masterpiece that is you.
We’re in this together 🚀
